Detoxing Across The Universe

I wish I could say I felt good but I don’t.  I feel dreadful.  Bloated, gassy and with a headache.  Plus I am so tired I can’t believe I stayed awake all day.

Day 1 was a combination of shakes, water, broth, enzymes and probiotic supplements.  That’s it.  No food 😦

I had most of the shakes with orange or apple juice but I went mad at lunch time and picked a beetroot and chopped up an orange.  Crazy!

Whizzed through my juicer (not blender as we can only have juices) it looked rather pretty.

Add 1 tbsp of the psyllium husk and bentonite clay powder

and whisk in to a thick, gloopy, gagtastic shake.  Bleurgh.

I also had to drink plenty of water and take regular enzyme supplements.

I might have to go to bed in a minute so my grumpy irritable self can get some sleep!

The Hurley Burley

What a truly splendid birthday weekend.  I was treated to lunch with my family.  This is the first photo I took with my new little camera.

All the pictures I took for this blog were with my new little camera and I am pleased with it.  It’s a Canon Ixus 220HS which is so tiny I can’t believe it takes any photos at all, never mind a good one.  Good zoom on it too.

The weather was perfect so we ate in the garden of the The Goudhurst Inn.  I really like this place.  The venue is lovely, the staff friendly and attentive and the food seems to be consistently good.  I had a seafood platter.  This was large enough to have shared with someone.  It had a pot of prawns, smoked mackerel, gravadlax and a fabulous smoked haddock fish pie.

The gravadlax was particularly good.  While we were enjoying our lunch Linda and Peter joined us for a drink which was a lovely surprise.  It was my birthday so I was allowed some sticky toffee pudding and vanilla ice-cream.

After meeting my sister Abi at Dad’s, where we stopped for a cuppa, we set off for Ye Olde  Bell in Hurley.

We checked in to this amazing old building which was built in the 16th Century.

The black bench has been built in to the wall.

The rooms though are quite modern.  This was our room – luckily the photo was taken as soon as we got there and before we began getting ready :-).  The stye was rustic modern with Farrow and Ball muted colours.  Very tasteful.

The bathroom was basic but good quality fixtures, fittings and lovely Aesop products.

We were in Hurley for the joint 40th birthday of my cousin Daniel and his wife Katie.  The party had an 80s theme so we decided to go as Madonna.  Yes, all 3 of us.  We were going for the black lace and crimped hair look.  Gosh, crimping takes a long time!

But I must say,and no offence to the men in our lives, it is so much more fun getting ready with girlies.  We had plenty of Prossecco to keep us going and laughed and giggled for the 2-3 hours it took to get ready.  It was brilliant.  Well, having my eye glued shut and a false eyelash stuck on my eyeball was not a highlight but we got there in the end.  Finally, all crimped and ready to rock!

We were greeted by our lovely hostess, who was managing to stay upright on roller skates.  Love the pink wig Katie and those are the longest eyelashes I have ever seen!  Katie, cousin Hannah and some of the others went for the neon roller disco look.

here’s the birthday boy, my cousin Daniel looking far more seedy than his normal good-looking self.

Fancy dress is so much fun at a party when everyone participates and it’s certainly an ice-breaker.  It gave everyone an opportunity to release their inner medallion man.  This is my Devon family – I can actually remember my cousins, Miranda and Edwina, when they looked like this, aged about 16 🙂

The party was held in a wonderful old barn called Monks Barn which is available for hire for parties and events such as weddings.  In fact it is where Daniel and Katie had their wedding reception.  It is a stunning building and you can see glimpses of it in these photos of my mad family.

Well, you are all amazing but we did all look quite bonkers last night.

Thanks to the men for looking after the children so we could party 🙂

Today we woke up just in time for breakfast at Ye Olde Bell.  We all love this hotel.  The rooms and spaces in between are absolutely gorgeous.

Still laughing – we just didn’t stop.

This was quite possibly the very best breakfast any of us have ever had.

I could stay in this hotel for a week and eat nothing but breakfast, gradually working my way through their wonderful menu.  So much of it was home made, or “inn made” as they called it, such as this wonderful granola and mini muffin.

The eggs Benedict was perfectly cooked

After our amazing breakfast we strolled round their beautiful garden.

Ooh goody, a vegetable garden!

I have vegetable garden envy.

And greenhouse envy.

We took some time to sit and stare.

I would love to take some of these home and whizz them up in to a smoothie.

We strolled down the road to Hurley Bed and Breakfast which is run by Daniel and Katie and where my Kent family were staying.  If you want to get away from it all and stay in a charming B&B, run by the most wonderful hosts then book yourself a room.  Hurley is located between Windsor and Henley-On-Thames.  A 5 minute stroll from the B&B takes you to a very pretty part of the Thames.

It was utterly delightful, strolling along the towpath in the sunshine.  You can walk from here to Marlow which I will do one day but we couldn’t today as we had to get back.  We crossed over the Thames at the Hurley lock.

The morning after the night before – all back to normal.  Thank you Daniel and Katie for such a wonderful party.  And happy birthday to you both.

Back at home James and I made supper.  Using carrots from the garden and celery, I made a coleslaw.  Carrot and celery coleslaw works very well – I recommend it.

Which we ate with BBQ chicken, sweetcorn, tomatoes and potatoes, both from the garden.

I had a wonderful birthday weekend and now it’s time to get back on that diet and be healthier.  Detox starts tomorrow!

This Was The Week That Was…..

This was the week we went to the Paralympics 🙂

On Monday evening we had tickets to watch athletics in the stadium.

We had great seats – 14 rows up from the front

so we had wonderful views

We saw the flame and world records being set

the Paralympics was such good value for money.  There were events on constantly so we saw loads of races and were sorry to leave.

we were lucky with the weather too as it was just sunny, sunny, sunny and warm enough to be comfortable in short sleeves all night. As we left at 10:30 pm, people were still sitting outside enjoying the atmosphere

Not sure about the Orbit

can we have one of these please?

Er, no.

This was the week that we we went to the Paralympics again!

The Aquatic Centre this time

We saw Ellie Simmonds win bronze

and Heather Frederiksen win gold

Another opportunity to stand and sing the National Anthem

This was the week that took me away from home too much.  I worked a day in Gillingham, a day in Birmingham and 2 days in Glasgow.  I dislike flying so after working all day in Birmingham, I took the train to Glasgow.  Essential refreshment on board the Trans Pennine train!

The scenery was stunning, especially going through the Lake District.

This was the week I spent 2 nights in the Hilton, Glasgow which was rather lovely.  I had a HUGE room

Unusual view outside – the M8 !  But I can honestly say I did not actually hear any traffic from my room on the 14 th floor

This was the week I was in the same place as George Osbourne twice!  Once at the Paralympics, when he was booed, which I confess I enjoyed.  And once at MY hotel.  He had come up to Glasgow to antagonise meet with Alex Salmond and co re Scottish devolution so there was a very heavy police presence and media vans etc.  I was too tired though to manage many photos of my trip to Scotland.

This was the week I ate some healthy food such as peach and raspberries with natural yogurt and granola

a salad of leftover cod with home grown potatoes, lettuce and tomatoes

a room service supper of noodles, shredded vegetables and chicken in a hot, sweet and sour dressing

a yummy treat of room service cheese and oatcakes

Hilton hotel breakfast of yogurt, berries and muesli

and unfortunately loads of garbage.  I have been stressed and exhausted this week so I have eaten too much and too much that was not healthy.  Lara and I are doing a detox together next week, starting on Monday.  The detox kit is ready and waiting 🙂

This was the week that was the start of my birthday weekend.  I have a new little camera so I don’t have to lug round my much loved but very heavy and large SLR, which I am delighted with, a replacement zoom lens for the one I lost (oops) and a hamper full of goodies, all bought locally and chosen by my gorgeous children.

We didn’t have a healthy breakfast – we had cake.  A fabulous butterscotch cake Lara made which is all gold and pink and shimmery.  Absolutely stunning and just what every Mummy needs to start her birthday.

This was the week that was all a bit much.  But now I am breathing deeply and calmly and excited about the weekend ahead.

Stuff To Do

I want a day off.  A day where I can just choose fun things to do or relaxing things to do.  I had so much to do today I had to write a list and the list was too long for a Sunday.  Definitely too long for the only clear day in my diary for the next month.  Humph!

Needed something energising.  Kale, fried in coconut oil,

with 2 eggs and some Cheddar.

Kale and cheese omelette.  Yum!

Loads of garlic, which is now brushed and stored.

Quick and simple lunch of tuna and sweetcorn mayonnaise sandwich.

Since I had some really boring chores to do, I made a delicious drink as a more interesting diversion.

There are many iced peach tea recipes on the internet and I chose this one from Channel 4.

Peach Iced Tea

Ingredients (makes 4 glasses)

  • 1 tbsp loose leaf tea
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 passionfruit
  • 500 ml peach nectar
  • Crushed ice to serve

Method

  • Place the tea in a jug and pour over 500ml boiling water.
  • Leave it to steep for 5 minutes then strain in to a jug, stir in the sugar so it dissolves and set aside to cool.
  • Sieve the passion fruit so the pulp is added to the tea, along with the peach nectar.
  • Serve over ice

This was lovely.  Sweet and refreshing.

These make me smile each time I walk past them.

Supper could have been simpler but we all wanted a roast.  It seems like it has been ages since the 4 of us sat round the table and had a traditional Sunday meal.  We had roast chicken, which I roasted with garlic, lemon and tarragon, with potatoes from the garden, broccoli, sweetcorn and mashed butternut squash.  It was delicious.

I have such a busy week ahead of me.  2 trips to the Paralympics planned :-).  2 nights out planned 🙂 .  Plus travelling to 3 different offices.  So much stuff to do!

Cake And Fizz Party

I had a lovely party to look forward to on Saturday night so I made sure I ate lightly and healthily all day.

I started with a delicious breakfast which featured raw buckwheat groats.  Buckwheat is full of fibre and valuable minerals and flavonoids.  Read here for more information about how it can help reduce cholesterol and other significant health benefits.

To eat buckwheat you can cook it like porridge but I like mine raw so I soak it overnight in water.  Place the portion you want to eat in a bowl or jug and cover with water.  It goes slimy which is the starch coming out so give it a good rinse before using it.  Then serve it with yogurt and fresh fruit or make a parfait!  This is very easy but you need to prepare the night before.

I had some nectarines which had begun to go soft so I cut out the soft/mouldy/mushy bits and froze the rest.  I wanted to make a fruit soft serve which has the consistency and feel of ice-cream.  All you have to do is freeze the fruit and then process in a food processor.  I used my food processor rather than Vitamix/blender as it makes a more whipped and colder soft serve.

Nectarine and Buckwheat Parfait

Ingredients (serves 2-3)

  • 1 banana, peeled and frozen
  • 2 nectarines, chopped in to large chunks and frozen
  • 1 cup of raw buckwheat groats, soaked overnight then rinsed well
  • 1 cup natural yogurt
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds (optional)
  • 1 tbsp blackstrap molasses (or use alternative sweetener such as honey, agave or maple syrup)

Method

  1. Place banana, nectarines and yogurt in food processor and blend and pulse until completely smooth.
  2. Add the chia seeds and molasses and blend until well mixed.
  3. Layer the buckwheat and soft serve in a glass and serve.

Simple, delicious and nutritious 🙂

Lunch was some lovely cod I bought in the fishmongers at Hartley Dyke which I marinaded all morning.

I bought this marinade at the Wealden Summer Fair but am not sure where to buy a replacement.  However, one of the many advantages of this blog, is that if I put up the ingredients, I can refer to them and make my own marinade another time 🙂

I say we had this for “lunch”.  My timings were off today so we actually ate at 6pm.  Well, I was busy doing a dog walk and having a leisurely cuppa with Suzanne and then spent 3 hours at the hairdressers.

I marinaded the cod for about 6 hours and then fried it gently on a ridged pan.  It was a very thick fillet so when I thought it was nearly cooked, I covered it with foil and left it to sit in the pan, with no heat for about 10 minutes.  It came out perfectly.

I served this with potatoes and carrots from the garden and broccoli.  Broccoli from the supermarket thanks to the caterpillars!  This variety of potatoes is ‘Shirley’ and they are a lovely firm consistency with excellent flavour.  I confess I did eat my potatoes with butter and salad cream.

Party time 🙂  Lovely Lisa always celebrates her birthday over several days and this year was no exception.  She hosted a cake and fizz party which is a wonderful idea.  There was some cheese too but mainly the food was a wonderful array of cakes, chocolates, biscuits and Pimms jellies and Eton Mess.

Caught in the act – Lisa made me 🙂 I suspect I tried everything.  At least once.  Oops!

I had a lovely evening, mainly due to having a chance to catch up with so many local ladies.  I have said it before, but I am going to say it again – I am so lucky to live near so many wonderful women.  It was so good to see you last night, Lisa, Marion, Rebecca, Vicky, Mirella, Suzanne, Clare, Elaine and Michelle.

PS Happy birthday (again) Lisa 🙂

Seaweed Super Salad

Friday!  Yippee.  I have missed my smoothies recently as I haven’t made one for ages so for breakfast I whizzed up a frozen banana, frozen raspberries, yogurt and almond milk.

Every Friday when I work from home, I hope to be able to sit and eat lunch with Lara and Harvey and have not yet managed it.  I didn’t manage it today either.  Isn’t that ridiculous?  I suppose I can’t moan too much as I had a 2 hour lunch break yesterday but I really wanted to eat with them today.  Unfortunately, it was a lunch eaten as I worked, again.  Lara made a fantastic salad which she kindly brought in to me.

Seaweed Super Food Salad

  • Arame seaweed, soaked for 15 minutes
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumber
  • Carrots
  • Avocado
  • Sweetcorn
  • Feta cheese
  • Crispy bacon

It was delicious.  Thank you Lara.

I made supper.  Harvey gathered some vegetables from the garden – guess who likes carrots but not green leaves?

I used 3 shallots that I harvested from the garden 2 weeks ago.  These are lovely.

I fried the shallots with some Wild Boar mince I found in the freezer, and the chopped up carrots, beans and some mushrooms.  When it had all browned slightly, I had a little clear out of the fridge and poured on 3 half eaten jars of tomato based pasta sauces and some corn.  I left it all to simmer for about 20 minutes while I cooked some pasta – I used up the end of 3 different packets of pasta.  I do love a clear out.

Very tasty, washed down with a red wine.  Have a good weekend 🙂

If The Mama Can’t Go To The Children …..

Thursday started very early for me and I was sitting at my desk in London before 7am.  I was treated with this lovely view of the early morning sun from my office window.

I have not seen enough of my children lately.  Work is taking up too much of my time and energy so my children came up to see me 🙂  .  Lara agreed that Monmouth coffee is the best there is.

We had a Raclette for lunch in the market, followed by an ice-cream.

I had a 2 hour pass for lunch so we went in the the Clink.  I have wandered past here nearly every day for 6 months and this was my first trip inside.  It was small and rather cheesy but interesting and we all enjoyed it.

Lara and Harvey spent the afternoon pottering around and visiting the London Dungeon which they raved about.  They met me after work – it was lovely to walk out of the lift and there they were.

We went to Hay’s Galleria which is near London Bridge.

We got lucky and found a table beside the river.  The early evening sun was beautiful on HMS Belfast.

After a drink we walked towards Tower Bridge which now has the Paralympic logo instead of the Olympic rings.  This Capital city of ours really is so stunning!

I have not ben to an art exhibition for at least a year but I have now been to 3 photographic exhibitions in 6 days!  Love it.

This one was by Tom Stoddart and was just set up outside the Mayor of London’s office.  Quite harrowing images which certainly made us think.

We were heading to the Bengal Clipper, an Indian restaurant,  which is on Shad Thames.

This is another of my favourite parts of London.  I love the old dock history and the tall warehouses and cobbled streets.

The Bengal Clipper may not have served the best curry ever but it was good.  The location was fabulous and the interior of the restaurant was very comfortable and we enjoyed the pianist tinkling the ivories during dinner.  I had a spicy fish tikka to start with, followed by a chicken curry, sag panner, dal makhani, Bombay poatoes and onion bahji.  Yummy.

The stroll back along the river side was as lovely as the stroll there.  This is such a gorgeous part of London and the walk here from London Bridge is superb.  There are several excellent restaurants there, including Pont de la Tour and Cantina.  Look how stunning Tower Bridge is at night.

The walk back to the station takes you past some lovely sights.

London bridge has been given a colourful night make over.

Is it red, white and blue for the Olympics?

This mama went to bed happy.  She may not make it home often enough to see her children as much as she wants to, so it was great to have her children come to her.

Down to Devon and Dorset

What a lovely few days we have had in Devon, staying with my sister Lucy.  We left Friday evening, after a day working from home.  Which began with what is now a firm favourite.  Need I say more?

Lara made us a stunning lunch of chicken baked with goats cheese, roasted peppers, mushrooms sautéed in garlic butter and steamed broccoli, yellow and green beans (beans from the garden 🙂 )

Saturday started in a most delicious manner with muesli, grape nuts and a dollop of the River Cottage Vanilla yogurt.  Hellooooo Hugh !  Not as healthy as a sugar free natural yogurt but my goodness this was amazing.

Fortified we set out for Bridport which is a delightful and surprisingly (to me at least) town.  They hold a market on the High Street on a Saturday

there was a brass band playing which added to the charm.

I really enjoyed looking around Bridport.  The architecture is lovely.

There is a large industrial area near the High Street which is full of vintage/antique/bric a brac shops, housed in some lovely old warehouses which are being bulldozed away to be replaced by new housing.

Some of the buildings are lovelier than the others but I regularly despair at local planning decisions.  Where are all these lovely businesses to be located.? And more importantly for the local economy, where will these people be able to sell their interesting, authentic and infinitely superior to mass produced alternatives?  Not only will these local people lose their jobs, the thousands of visitors to Bridport each year, attracted by this wonderful area, will go elsewhere so the whole town will be worse off.

My main soap box topic though is summed up perfectly in this article, which accompanied a superb photographic exhibition we visited , held in the Bridport Arts Centre.  My pet topic, as many of you know, is outrage at how for the sake of profit,  small farms have been replaced by agri-business which plunders and destroys our land, poisons us with all the chemicals they use to control pests and to try to restore fertility to the nutrient depleted soil.  Then those manufacturing companies who then further reduce the nutritional value of our food by altering the natural structure of our food, padding it out with another arsenal of artificial chemicals.

The photos were large black and white images, taken in the 70’s.  They were very simple and the stunning thing about them was their ordinariness.  It was fascinating to us, to see people working on the land, in mines, in heavy industry or just sitting on a train in the 1970’s.  All accompanied with a very powerful message.  We thoroughly enjoyed this exhibition.

Trevor had kindly taken the children out to play in a large adventure playground at West Bay and we all met up at The Stable, renowned for its fantastic pizzas.

I had a pizza with potato, spinach and blue cheese.  Wow, it was excellent.

Back at the ranch our evening kicked off with a Hendricks and cucumber.  I have never had either Hendricks or gin and cucumber before and it was most enjoyable.  So any of you gin aficionados out there, try it.  Gin and tonic with cucumber is very refreshing.

We had a delicious supper.  From Hugh F-Ws family cookbook, Trevor cooked the lentil and bacon soup which was delicious.

Followed by a superb salad we made communally.  In to this lovely mix of roasted peppers, artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, avocado, sugar snap peas, olives and feta cheese was stirred some quinoa.  Fabulous.

After a fun evening playing Mah Jong with Lucy and my cousin Miranda, a lovely day drew to a peaceful end.

Sunday – first stop was one of my favourite places to sit and eat : the Town Mill Bakery in Lyme Regis.  We were lucky enough to have a table outside where we enjoyed the warm sunshine.  I had granary toast and a boiled egg with a cappuchino.  It was all perfect, as it always is.

The Town Mill area of Lyme Regis has been renovated in recent years .

This is a delightful area, with buildings perched above streams flowing out to the sea.  The streams flow out to sea that is, not the buildings 🙂 .

In some cases, the stream completely flows underneath!

These lovely old building now house a brewery, pottery, cheese shop and ice-cream parlour, restaurants and an exhibition venue.  We enjoyed the photographic exhibition and I have been inspired to have some of my photos produced on aluminium.

What a splendid morning and the sun was good to us.

It is a very long and steep hill from the town back to my sister’s.  We ambled slowly along the streams

enjoying looking at the pretty buildings

Some of which are painted more startlingly than others!

We finally reached the top of the hill – Golden Cap is in the distance.

After catching our breath, we headed over to Grandpa Ian’s for a BBQ.  It is always a pleasure to potter round their garden, admiring Helen’s design and planning so they have flowers constantly and Ian’s hard work in creating such a delightful garden.

Sunshine came for a BBQ too

We wouldn’t describe these 3 as tongue-tied – leg tied maybe?

Burgers were on the menu, followed by a Magnum or Snickers

It was just warm enough to sit outside.

See you soon Helen and Grandpa Ian

In the evening we went to Lyme Regis for “Candles on the Cobb” which we enjoyed initially from the gardens.

It was delightful.  5,000 candles were lit by a very large team of volunteers and we listened to beautiful music and took in the beauty of the moment before wandering down to the beach.

Monday morning started with muesli, grape nuts, natural yogurt, raspberries and blueberries.

My sister Lucy has often knitted.  I confess we used to tease her rather unkindly when we were younger but now I find myself very envious of her skills with a ball of yarn and 2 needles.  I would like to spend more time making things and being able to draw and sew are on my list of things to do.  After this weekend, so too is knitting.  I used to knit many years ago but have probably not tried knitting anything for about 30 years!  My little niece Olivia is delighted with her new hand knitted jumper which has not been taken off since this photo was taken.

As we were having such a lazy day at home, Lucy showed me how to knit.  She has all the knitting needles that used to belong to our Mother and Grandmother.

After a little lesson I was off.   Mummy taught us all to knit when we were children and apart from casting on which I struggled with (thank you for being so patient Lucy), I remembered what to do quite quickly.  I really enjoyed using something Mummy and Nana used to use.  I need a hobby to keep my hands occupied and out of the fridge in the evenings so this could be it 🙂 .

We decided to have a lazy lunch.

There is wonderful take away place on Lyme Regis High Street called The Whole Hog.

They sell roast meats, with accompaniments such as stuffing, apple sauce, crackling and gravy.  Get there early though because when it’s gone it’s gone!

We managed to park outside, bought our lunch and whizzed home where we all tucked in to a roast meat bap for lunch.  It was absolutely delicious and I highly recommend it if you are in Lyme Regis.

It was such a lovely weekend.  We ate lots of healthy food but I did eat too many crisps and popcorn too but as weekends away go, it was not a disaster on the food front.  It was brilliant on the enjoyment front.  Thank you Lucy, Trevor, Harry and Olivia for our wonderful weekend.

Perfect Children

I have the world’s most perfect children.   I know yours are lovely too, but, mine are better.  Quite perfect really.  More perfect than I am that’s for sure.

Started with a coffee (AGAIN!!) and bircher muesli.  Not a huge fan of this one – I don’t want carrot for breakfast!

Out for some grass at lunch time.

I felt tired so I went for the wheatgrass shot.

In a wheatgrass smoothie, which had wheatgrass with orange, lime, apple and banana.

I pottered round the market.  It is supposed to be open on Wednesdays during the summer but it is rather half hearted.  Great to see Turnips open.

Don’t fancy these much.

I was uninspired so went to Konditor & Cook where I was pleased to discover they have started a salad bar.

I went for a taste of everything with some salmon.  It was really good.

When I got home from work, feeling tired and hot, I noticed immediately that the house was not only tidy but spotlessly clean.  Was it Friday, the day my cleaning lady comes?  No, it’s definitely Wednesday.  Perfect daughter had tidied and cleaned.

I wondered what the junk was doing in the garden.  But on closer inspection it was a crazy golf course, as demonstrated here by perfect son.

My wonderful children had tidied, cleaned and then made their own entertainment which didn’t cost me anything.  When you both work, you do spend a lot of money on childcare.  During holidays, it is even more expensive.  I have raised an eyebrow once or twice recently (massive understatement) at how much money I hand over each day and they have listened.  So my perfect children had a free day at home and tidied and cleaned.  And played golf.

Wait, there’s more.  They also made dinner!

I came home to a home made lasagne, served with a glass of wine and salad.

How perfect are my children 🙂 ?

From One Extreme To The Other

Yesterday was all about growing your own, eating vegetables and relaxing.  Today I was back in the City, had few vegetables and worked hard.

These 2 are becoming a habit.

Peach today instead of cherry.  I definitely prefer the cherry but this was good.

I didn’t get out for lunch until nearly 3pm.  I always get in to work early and spend an hour dealing with emails, eating breakfast at my desk and planning my day.  I then had a 4 hour workshop (with no “comfort break” which I think is bad form), straight in to a presentation I had to do and then a meeting.  I sat down to eat my lunch at 2:57.  I took half an hour to enjoy my chicken soup and ham and cheese toastie in the perfect temperature central London enjoyed today.

Back home I went straight to the garden to breathe some clean air and enjoy being at home. Listening to the birds, checking the vegetable beds for signs of growth and enjoying the heavenly scent of these beauties.

I love sweet peas and grew them up bamboo wigwams next to the vegetables so I can enjoy them while I work on the veggie beds.  I also bring some inside 🙂

Last year my beetroots bolted but this year they have done brilliantly.

I am very pleased with them.
Last year I grew ‘Bull’s Blood’ = fail.
This year I grew ‘Boltadry’ = success.

I had to have that beetroot and berry smoothie again.

I forgot to add the dates at first and they make all the difference from it being OK to amazing.  As a reminder, you need to blitz:
4 dates,
1 good sized or 3 small raw beetroots,
1 orange
1 punnett of raspberries or mixed berries
almond milk.

If you have a good blender – PLEASE MAKE THIS.  IT IS FAB-U-LOUS.

So good.  Love the colour. Love the taste.
