Does an apple a day keep the Doctor away? Can apples help the battle against obesity? Well this article in Medical News Today thinks maybe they can. Having read the article (thank you Elizabeth for posting it) there may be something in it. I don’t know but twice this week I have had an apple for breakfast and another mid morning and I have gone on to eat really well all day. I have done well today too after an apple breakfast but on the days when I had a more substantial breakfast, I ate badly.
I shall certainly eat more apples anyway. I have been hungry today. I have had an upset stomach the past 2 days but I felt much better today. I made a green and yellow banana ice-cream. The green half was made with spinach, spirulina, matcha and co yo coconut yogurt.
The yellow half was made with mango and apricot, topped with some coconut flakes and goji berries. It was awesome.
I worked from home today so I foraged for some of my lunch. Thank goodness I don’t have to make my living as a tomato farmer! The little red ones continue to split and the bigger ones are not going red! Fortunately the local shops sell plenty that are red, ripe and juicy.
Luckily the carrots and spring onions are doing much better.
There is so much greenery above the carrot – does anyone know if you can eat carrot tops? It seems like such a waste putting it on the compost heap.
They scrub up really well 🙂
We got loads of potatoes from the garden today.
I scrubbed a few of these little pink fir potatoes for lunch and boiled them. They only took about 10 minutes to cook.
Served with black pepper and some butter. Really good.
This plate of chopped veggies needed some taters.
Plus some hummous. A very simple lunch but top quality veggies need very little adornment.
In the afternoon I was peckish again. Or bored. I wasn’t sure to be honest but I made a banana ice-cream with fresh blackberries.
It was good but needed a little something extra.
Perfect – some coconut flakes.
Supper was really easy because I made it last week 🙂 A portion of the Mary Berry chicken casserole we had last Friday was even yummier tonight.
So according to My Fitness Pal I am over my calorie allowance but everything I ate was nutritious so I am not worried about it.
I am glad to see you adding more veggies in the morning instead of all the sugar from the fruit only smoothies, which could definitely keep you hungry all day, even if it is natural sugar. It still raises the blood sugar and you still crash from it. Balance is the key.
Yes, you can eat carrot tops! I use them in soup – have not tried it in a juice yet!
Lovely blog 🙂
I should try them and thank you 🙂
