I was feeling very proud of my eating efforts today until I went to the cinema to see ‘Pride’. What an utterly brilliant film; gay rights, striking miners, Thatcher’s Britain, 1980’s music and themes of community, comradeship, tolerance and acceptance (or not!). Comedy moments and really sad bits too. Go and see it if you can. I went with Lara and she made me have a bag of mints, she really did! It was interesting going with her as the film is set in 1985 and I was her age when the events in the film took place. I was quite an active demonstrator in my youth and participated in quite a few marches and attended many benefit gigs in London and around the country. I doubt many of today’s youth in this country demonstrate like we used to.
So apart from the bag of mints, this is what I had today.
Mug of lime juice in water to start with. A kale smoothie for breakfast.
Made palatable with lots of freshly picked raspberries from the garden.
Blended with 2 frozen bananas and some coconut water then topped with pomegranate and coconut flakes.
Rather pleasant.
More kale for lunch, this time fried with onion and mushrooms and served with a parmesan cheese omelette.
It was earthy and woody and cheesy, which was a good thing. I really enjoyed this quick and easy lunch.
I may not be a good tomato farmer but I am doing really well with the potatoes. Look at these beauties!
Eaten with butter and some Salad Cream plus black beans, carrots, red pepper, tomatoes, sugar snap peas and cucumber.
So I was really good until the sweets. I want to see that film again and play some of those 1980’s hits from the likes of Bronski Beat and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. What an era!
I agree and was surprised tonight when Bob put on the 80’s instead of the 70’s or 60’s when we had our first dinner/supper alone in months. Frankie Goes To Hollywood was Bob’s favourite and mine as well back in the day.
Oh and I was one of those “hippie” protesters too. Labeled “hippie” because I stood up for what I believed in. OKAY. Fine with me.
