Leaving

A bit of a sad day yesterday.  My last day with the team I have been working with for the last 2 months.

I will miss the walk over London Bridge I do some mornings when I am earlier than the first Cannon Street train.

I always enjoy the views from London Bridge and after the recent grey weather, it was a pleasure to see the sun.hazy on LB

I will miss my walks through the City.  Recent work has meant I have visited several different offices during the day and I will miss those walks.  All was quiet outside the Bank of England so early in the morning.Bank of England early morning

I am really struggling with healthy eating at the moment and eating far too much and making poor choices.  Such as this muffin from pod.  It did have seeds in it so was marginally healthier than the chocolate one.  But muffins are full of fat and sugar so never a good choice.  The same applies to flapjacks so never kid yourself!  I also had some sugary yogurts they were giving away as a promotion.pod seeded muffin

The lovely team I work with gave me a card with really kind comments inside which I was very touched by.  Contractors rarely get such things so it was even more appreciated.

Leaving cardI didn’t track all the chocolate I ate in the last day in the office before Easter or my last visit to Whitecross market where today I had 2 cookies and a pork burrito.   I will miss so much about the work I have done recently.  I will not miss being reminded of Christmas every day though.  This advert has been up near the office since February!!!   Actually I really like the advert with its neon flamingo, I just don’t like to think about Christmas all year round.

So this morning I decided to be very healthy and make the greenest of green smoothies.green things for green smoothie

I just had spinach, kale, 2 kiwi fruits, matcha, white chia seeds and coconut water.green stuff

It actually tasted disgusting.  The fact it looked like pond algae didn’t help.  I just thought about the nutrients and got it down.yucky green smoothie

I made a chicken, sweetcorn and leek soup for lunch by making the stock from 2 chicken carcasses which I slowly simmered with carrots and leeks.  I discarded the cooked vegetables and then added sweetcorn and freshly sautéed leeks to the stock.  lunch 29-3-13

It was OK but I forgot to salt it when I cooked it and I should have reduced the stock a bit.Chicken sweetcorn and leek soup

So apart from the white crusty bread, I was doing OK.  But then Lara and Harvey made these chocolate Rice Krispie cakes.  Diet disaster as clearly one is not enough.Easter cakes

For supper tonight we had some Sea Bream I picked up at Cranbrook Fishmongers.Sea Bream filletsInspired by a recipe I saw recently on a blog called Alternative Eating, I wanted to dip the fish in egg and seasoned flour then fry it.  My piece didn’t have much batter on it and I would put more on next time.  it was lovely.  I don’t know if I have had Sea Bream before but it is a bit firmer and tastier than Sea Bass.  We all really enjoyed it.

Fish and potatoesSo my bad eating continues tonight with white wine and ice cream.  Tomorrow we are out for lunch and dinner and then it is Easter.  So I am going to enjoy myself for a couple of days, hopefully not going crazy, and be back on the diet with a vengeance from Monday.

About Lose Weight and Gain Health

Hi! My name is Zoe and I live in Hastings, East Sussex, with my son Harvey and dog, Milton. I have been fighting the fat for years but this time I am serious. I want to lose weight and gain health. This blog is about how I am changing my lifestyle so I can lose weight but not by just "being on a diet" but by making small changes to our lives so that as I lose weight, I gain health. I want my family to be healthy too and never have to struggle with their weight like I have. In common with many large people, I have gained and lost weight many times over the years. This time, I want to lose it and maintain a healthy low weight. I am interested in eating food that is nutrient dense and delicious and that appeals to children and adults. I do not eat animal products so follow a vegan diet. I try to use locally produced food supplemented with what I can grow myself. I support and try to use local farmers markets and farm shops. Another objective is to add more exercise to our days. It sounds so simple when I write it down :-)
