A Day Off

We had a day off today.  Not due to sickness but a day’s holiday.  I do still feel below par but so much better than I did yesterday.

I had a real fancy for rice for breakfast.  Brown Basmati rice.

I cooked it with eggs and broccoli.  The frankfurters are Harvey’s – not my thing.Breakfast in progress

Stir fried egg with broccoli and cholula hot sauce.  Brown rice and vegetables are so healthy and now I am getting a better appreciation of calories, they are a great way to start the day, if you can stomach it.  I don’t always feel like vegetables for breakfast but I did today.egg fried rice and Cholula

We were going to be out during lunch time so I popped 100g brown basmati rice in to a tupperware pot with some red pepper, cherry tomatoes and lettuce.  A very simple, low calorie and low fat lunch.lunch 20-3-13

We visited 2 pretty towns/villages today.  This is Sutton Valence which is about 15 minutes from us yet we had never been to the village before!

This is a pretty village with a wobbly cobbled pavement and just a small shop and a pub.Sutton Valence village

Our next stop was Battle, named after the famous battle which took place in 1066.

There is so much historical significance to this place and it is beautiful.

This cup of tea and slice of chocolate cake and cherries was too tempting to resist.

Unfortunately for my purse but fortunately for my shopping pleasure,  Battle had a fab kitchen shop and I bought myself a few new goodies.Steamer Trading goodies

A quick supper was in order.  A stack of veggies, all chopped and ready for stir frying:  spinach, carrots, yellow pepper, leek, courgette, mange tout and mushrooms.Chopped veggies

For protein we had Tofu Wieners and half a chicken breast each.Tofu wiener and chicken

Stir fried with a black bean sauce.  I had a very modest portion to compensate for the cake!Black bean stir fryHaving had a lovely day out with my son, I am spending the evening with my daughter.  We are going to the local cinema to see Arbitrage.  Have a good evening 🙂

About Lose Weight and Gain Health

Hi! My name is Zoe and I live in Hastings, East Sussex, with my son Harvey and dog, Milton. I have been fighting the fat for years but this time I am serious. I want to lose weight and gain health. This blog is about how I am changing my lifestyle so I can lose weight but not by just "being on a diet" but by making small changes to our lives so that as I lose weight, I gain health. I want my family to be healthy too and never have to struggle with their weight like I have. In common with many large people, I have gained and lost weight many times over the years. This time, I want to lose it and maintain a healthy low weight. I am interested in eating food that is nutrient dense and delicious and that appeals to children and adults. I do not eat animal products so follow a vegan diet. I try to use locally produced food supplemented with what I can grow myself. I support and try to use local farmers markets and farm shops. Another objective is to add more exercise to our days. It sounds so simple when I write it down :-)
