Twenty One At The Wolseley

Part 2 of Lara’s birthday celebrations found us on a train to London before 10 am this morning.  Are you eating a burger?

Nope.  Some birthday cake 🙂  We all had a bite and that was breakfast.Lara's chocolate cake

We arrived at The Wolseley which Lara chose for her family lunch as it is one of her favourite restaurants.  We met BJ and Helen there as they were unable to come yesterday.

This is a lovely building to sit in and we were on one of the balconies.

This gave us a lovely view over the whole restaurant.

And we had a bell to push when we needed the waiter.  The service in here is so impeccable we didn’t need to push it though.

I had the herring with beetroot and horseradish to start which was excellent.

Followed by roast pheasant with savoy cabbage, watercress and a rich jus.Wolseley pheasant

With creamy mashed potato.  We drank an excellent Sancerre with the meal.creamed mash

We hadn’t ordered a birthday cake as we had produced that stunner yesterday, thanks to Flossie Pops Cakery.  BJ asked if they had anything for a birthday celebration and they produced this charming greeting on a marzipan plaque.Marzipan Happy Birthday

With 3 mini macaroons which we shared: pistachio, coconut and rose.3 macaroons

I had also ordered a treacle tart which was lovely too.Wolseley treacle tart

Coffee was served on a little tray with a glass of water.  I have not been served coffee like that before – is the water for drinking?Wolseley Cappuchino

We spent a very happy 4 hours in the Wolseley today.3 boys

Thank you BJ and Helen for coming down from Warwickshire to join us for lunch.3 girls at Wolseley

I was sad to good-bye to Lara as she hopped in one cab heading for King’s Cross and Durham while we hopped in another for Charring Cross and home.In taxi

It has snowed all day.Fountains in Trafalgar Square

You rarely see the Trafalgar Square lions with snow on them.snow in Trafalgar Square

BRRRR rather than GRRRRR today.Snowy lion

Back home there was loads of snow!

I usually work from home on a Monday but I have to go in tomorrow.  It is going to be very cold tonight so the roads will be icy – not looking forward to the drive to the station 😦Snow on the drive

It does look pretty though.  The apple tree is covered in snow.snow on the apple treeAt home, Harvey retreated under the stairs to cuddle the dogs.

I have the glums.  It has been so much fun planning this weekend and looking forward to it and then even better living it.  But now it is finished and the house is quiet again.  It always seems empty without Lara in it.  Still, i have so many happy memories I won’t be sad for long.  Plus I need to plan healthy eating starting from tomorrow morning.  Have a good evening.

About Lose Weight and Gain Health

Hi! My name is Zoe and I live in Hastings, East Sussex, with my son Harvey and dog, Milton. I have been fighting the fat for years but this time I am serious. I want to lose weight and gain health. This blog is about how I am changing my lifestyle so I can lose weight but not by just "being on a diet" but by making small changes to our lives so that as I lose weight, I gain health. I want my family to be healthy too and never have to struggle with their weight like I have. In common with many large people, I have gained and lost weight many times over the years. This time, I want to lose it and maintain a healthy low weight. I am interested in eating food that is nutrient dense and delicious and that appeals to children and adults. I do not eat animal products so follow a vegan diet. I try to use locally produced food supplemented with what I can grow myself. I support and try to use local farmers markets and farm shops. Another objective is to add more exercise to our days. It sounds so simple when I write it down :-)

I’m glad that the memories of the weekend will be able to turn that frown upside down just by looking at the pictures. That was an amazing cake yesterday!

  2. Am I an awful cow who feels just a little bit relieved when the kids have gone? Lovely pics, Zoe, and you really made Lara’s 21st one to remember. Great blog.
