Part 2 of Lara’s birthday celebrations found us on a train to London before 10 am this morning. Are you eating a burger?
Nope. Some birthday cake 🙂 We all had a bite and that was breakfast.
We arrived at The Wolseley which Lara chose for her family lunch as it is one of her favourite restaurants. We met BJ and Helen there as they were unable to come yesterday.
This is a lovely building to sit in and we were on one of the balconies.
This gave us a lovely view over the whole restaurant.
And we had a bell to push when we needed the waiter. The service in here is so impeccable we didn’t need to push it though.
I had the herring with beetroot and horseradish to start which was excellent.
Followed by roast pheasant with savoy cabbage, watercress and a rich jus.
With creamy mashed potato. We drank an excellent Sancerre with the meal.
We hadn’t ordered a birthday cake as we had produced that stunner yesterday, thanks to Flossie Pops Cakery. BJ asked if they had anything for a birthday celebration and they produced this charming greeting on a marzipan plaque.
With 3 mini macaroons which we shared: pistachio, coconut and rose.
I had also ordered a treacle tart which was lovely too.
Coffee was served on a little tray with a glass of water. I have not been served coffee like that before – is the water for drinking?
We spent a very happy 4 hours in the Wolseley today.
Thank you BJ and Helen for coming down from Warwickshire to join us for lunch.
I was sad to good-bye to Lara as she hopped in one cab heading for King’s Cross and Durham while we hopped in another for Charring Cross and home.
You rarely see the Trafalgar Square lions with snow on them.
BRRRR rather than GRRRRR today.
Back home there was loads of snow!
I usually work from home on a Monday but I have to go in tomorrow. It is going to be very cold tonight so the roads will be icy – not looking forward to the drive to the station 😦
It does look pretty though. The apple tree is covered in snow.At home, Harvey retreated under the stairs to cuddle the dogs.
I have the glums. It has been so much fun planning this weekend and looking forward to it and then even better living it. But now it is finished and the house is quiet again. It always seems empty without Lara in it. Still, i have so many happy memories I won’t be sad for long. Plus I need to plan healthy eating starting from tomorrow morning. Have a good evening.
I’m glad that the memories of the weekend will be able to turn that frown upside down just by looking at the pictures. That was an amazing cake yesterday!
I realised when I was writing that I must sound like a spoilt brat, feeling sad after such an amazing weekend. But I feel sad every time Lara goes away – does it get easier?
Am I an awful cow who feels just a little bit relieved when the kids have gone? Lovely pics, Zoe, and you really made Lara’s 21st one to remember. Great blog.
