I decided to not eat breakfast at home today and I caught an earlier train. Which gave me time to look round the market for a healthy breakfast.
I have been past this grocers but never in it before – the trains run just above it.
I chose a smoothie.
I went for the strawberry one which was made with freshly squeezed orange juice, strawberries, banana and natural yogurt. It was good. And I bought 2 clementines to have mid morning as well.
At lunch time I wandered back in to the market and it was buzzing. So many new stalls open up on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Such as this lovely fish stall
And an amazing vegetable stall, which not only sells the most amazing produce but it is all arranged so well.
I wanted to buy it all! But for lunch I went to the Raclette stand. The last time I was in the market on a busy day I had already eaten lunch but I have wanted to try a Raclette ever since. The cheese is cut and placed in a special contraption
which heats the cheese under a little grill so it melts
and once melted it is scraped on to potatoes and served with gherkins and small onions.
WOW!
Nothing more to say. Just WOW! It is not a huge portion so really not a diet disaster, especially since I had such a light breakfast.
I stood and ate it in the sunshine in the gardens of Southwark Cathedral which was packed with people. As was the market. It was buzzing which gave it a great vibe.
I have been buzzing too, busy as a little bee at work, which is going well but is getting busy. Buzzzzz.
We have a raclette machine at home – the kids LOVE it. Ours has little individual pans that you put the cheese on and it melts. Lovely on any vegetables really, particularly potato and courgettes too. That big one looks pretty spectacular though I must say. x
We are such gadget Queens! I can’t believe you have one and I have never seen it. I didn’t even know such a thing existed. Going to the top of my wish list. Well, after my Vita Mix blender.
Zoe – you have found the most perfect place to work. Surrounded by fantastic, local, healthy food in a sublime setting. Who cares what happens to the bits in between!
Hear hear VGUTR, who cares about the work part :-). Or is it here here?
