Ladies Who Lunch

I was going out for lunch (yes, AGAIN) so I had a very low point but healthy breakfast.  A smoothie made with 200ml coconut water, 1 tbsp sunflower seed butter, 2 tbsp natural probiotic yogurt, lots of blueberries and a banana.  6 WW points.

Yum.

I went to Uckfield today to meet my sister Abi

and friend Alison.

Abi and I went to Uckfield in January to the cinema.  Neither of us had been there before and thought it looked worth re-visiting for lunch one day.  I had a lovely cafe in mind but having wandered up and down the High Street

we didn’t see anywhere we really fancied.  There was a lovely homes and gifts store called Carvills

and a lovely Deli but everything else was pretty standard and uninspiring.  So we went to Pizza Express.  While we were ordering I had a Diet Coke and some marinated olives (1 WW point).

I had the Salad Nicoise which had various salad leaves, cucumber, tomato, tuna, anchovies, capers and boiled eggs with a creamy dressing and dough sticks.  I couldn’t find the points value on-line so I used the points from another salad, including the dough sticks and salad dressing as I ate them all.  13 WW points.  It was delicious.

Alison and I wondered what was the most fattening; an average pizza or the salad + dough sticks + dressing.  Well the average pizza has 24 points but a salad has 13 so I made a good choice.

Pizza Express nowadays serve a small portion of a dessert with coffee which is an excellent idea.  I chose the Semi Froddo which has nougat and crunchy praline.  It was delicious.  Again I couldn’t find the points on-line so I used the points from a portion of Ben and Jerry’s which is a high fat and high sugar ice-cream.  8 WW points.

We had a lovely time.  I rarely go out for lunch with any of my lovely sisters so this was a real treat.  I was really pleased Alison could take some time off work to join us and we had great fun and a good catch up.

This afternoon the sun was shining brightly and it was really warm.  I drove home with the windows open and thoroughly enjoyed driving though the beautiful Sussex and Kent countryside feeling warm air around me.  When I got home loads of the Spring flowers were out – crocuses, snowdrops and primroses.  It was really beautiful and very uplifting.

Supper was a simple affair.  I had 7 Swedish meatballs (6 points) with a heap of steamed kale and carrots which I served with 2 tsp butter (2 points).

I really enjoyed the veg and am surprised by myself as a few months ago I hated kale.  I then started to like eating it in a stir fry but now I can eat it and enjoy it steamed.

Followed by half a mango and blueberries.

The mango was perfectly ripe so it was soft and sweet.  A perfect ending to another lovely day.

About Lose Weight and Gain Health

Hi! My name is Zoe and I live in Hastings, East Sussex, with my son Harvey and dog, Milton. I have been fighting the fat for years but this time I am serious. I want to lose weight and gain health. This blog is about how I am changing my lifestyle so I can lose weight but not by just "being on a diet" but by making small changes to our lives so that as I lose weight, I gain health. I want my family to be healthy too and never have to struggle with their weight like I have. In common with many large people, I have gained and lost weight many times over the years. This time, I want to lose it and maintain a healthy low weight. I am interested in eating food that is nutrient dense and delicious and that appeals to children and adults. I do not eat animal products so follow a vegan diet. I try to use locally produced food supplemented with what I can grow myself. I support and try to use local farmers markets and farm shops. Another objective is to add more exercise to our days. It sounds so simple when I write it down :-)

  1. You ended today’s blog with “a perfect ending to another lovely day”. Reading your blog, with a nice cup of tea has become the way that I end my day. I do hope your blogging won’t discontinue when you go back to the city next week? Good luck with your new venture!

  2. What a lovely comment Debz, thank you very much. I will have to see how the blogging goes. It could get a bit repetitive but I will try and eat a varied lunch and go for a walk every lunch time so I have something to say in the evening 🙂
