Plant Power

I have made a lot of poor food choices recently.  I could easily have done the same again today because I had another stressful day yesterday and woke up very tired with a busy day ahead of me.  But no – I knew plants would make me feel better so I ate lots of them and guess what ? I do πŸ˜ƒ.

Food of the Gods!  Frozen bananas and fresh apricots, blended together into a thick sweet smoothie. It was perfect.

I made another smoothie for lunch with bananas, frozen berries, plums and lettuce.  Yes, lettuce.  I wanted to add some greens and I have lots of lettuce in the garden so I used some up. Not bad at all and it felt like it was full of wonderful nutrients, which of course it was.
I snacked on 3 apples during the afternoon. Dinner was veggietastic.
Transformed in to a stir fry with Thai flavours.  I added some mung bean noodles which were a strange texture when uncooked but lovely when boiled and then stir fried.
Served with fresh coriander, soy sauce and sweet chilli sauce. Yummy.   I feel very much better already.  The power of plant food.

About Lose Weight and Gain Health

Hi! My name is Zoe and I live in Hastings, East Sussex, with my son Harvey and dog, Milton. I have been fighting the fat for years but this time I am serious. I want to lose weight and gain health. This blog is about how I am changing my lifestyle so I can lose weight but not by just "being on a diet" but by making small changes to our lives so that as I lose weight, I gain health. I want my family to be healthy too and never have to struggle with their weight like I have. In common with many large people, I have gained and lost weight many times over the years. This time, I want to lose it and maintain a healthy low weight. I am interested in eating food that is nutrient dense and delicious and that appeals to children and adults. I do not eat animal products so follow a vegan diet. I try to use locally produced food supplemented with what I can grow myself. I support and try to use local farmers markets and farm shops. Another objective is to add more exercise to our days. It sounds so simple when I write it down :-)

I love it! Tis the season! πŸ™‚

    • Have you tried a frozen Banana smoothie yet Laura? Mixed with mango and/ or apricot is my favourite.

I have been doing them for 11 years now Zoe. I like them with organic strawberries or in my Green Monster smoothie, which is my favourite for energizing in the morning or a pick me up in the afternoon as a snack.

      • Oh, my mistake. I thought you commented that you wanted to try them. You are so ahead of the trend πŸ˜ƒ

That is cute about being ahead of the trent. That is only because I had 40 lbs/2 stones to lose in 2004! I still had another 10 to go when I met your family.

I have been at my goal weight since 2013, a year after I started doing my MAD Mile 4 Health walk everyday. Between getting rid of processed foods 97% of the time, giving up pop and juice to replace it with water and walking each day, along with strength and stretching exercises both my Sister and I have released weight we gained during menopause and we both feel so much better.

My Sister just started doing this last December when she retired. She is totally amazed at the weight that is gone from walking at least a mile a day and always trying to reach 10,000 steps and how much better she feels eating healthy and not carrying around the extra weight.
