What a fabulous day we all had at Ascot. This is one of my favourite days of the year and although I had to cut my day short, I did enjoy every minute I was there.
I didn’t have the pleasure of my glamorous daughter’s company this year as she was working at Ascot so I waved her off first thing and then made myself some breakfast. I thought a smoothie would be a good start and made one with natural yogurt, peanut butter, blackberries, blueberries, spinach and some coconut milk.
Very tasty.
I was given a parking space this year which was a treat but I don’t think my little red car quite fitted in with all the big cars! Lots of people have a grand picnic out of the back of their car but we were eating inside.
We were in the Royal Enclosure which has a very strict dress code. All the ladies have to wear a hat or a substantial fascinator – ALL the ladies 🙂
Having arrived I could breathe deep, reeeeeelax and enjoy the day.
I arrived later than my friends who were already in the Seafood restaurant we eat in each year.
Crab salad with white wine and then champagne for me.My gorgeous girl friends, Helen and Becky.
Plus a couple of likely lads whose presence we decided to grace 🙂 Ahem, hats gentlemen please!
After lunch we headed off to the spot near the tunnel we favour to watch her Majesty arrive.
Here she comes – you can see her blue hat on the right.
She was riding in her carriage with her husband Philip
son Prince Andrew and grandson, Prince Harry. My pictures are a bit fuzzy so apologies for that but you get the general idea of how lovely it is to be able to stand so close to our royal family.
In the next carriage was princess Anne with Princess Eugenie, Anne’s husband and her son Peter.
Rory Bremnar ! What was he doing there?
All the Queen’s horses and all the Queen’s men. What a spectacle it was.
Having enjoyed the royal family arriving in their carriages it was time to watch the races.
Some won more than others.
Ladies Day is such a popular event and it is so much fun. Everyone gets dressed up and makes the most of the day so there is a fantastic atmosphere. The public stands get very crowded.
One can not help but gawp at all the fashion and all the people milling around.
Having arrived, the Queen and her family watch the racing from the Royal Box.
She was easy to spot today in her bright blue.
It is so exciting watching the racing live. We usually manage to find a spot at the front and you can hear and feel the roar of the crowd as the horses approach the finishing line which I get such a buzz from, whether I have won or lost or not even bet.
Between the races you can wander round and see the horses up close. What magnificent creatures these animals are. He’s enjoying himself.
Suitably smart stables are provided.
I was sad to leave early today but I had an important event to attend. I did break my journey to grab a sandwich, drink and ice cream (oops).
I went to the little fella’s school to enjoy the opening night of ‘Honk!’ which is based on the story of the Ugly Duckling. It was very comical, with excellent singing and acting. My little cherub was a froglet and he did me proud. Very proud.
So after that amazing day, it will be hard to come up with something that could match it for fun and enjoyment. Luckily, I believe I have just the thing lined up for tomorrow and the weekend. I do LOVE this time of year.
It looks like an absolutely amazing day. I thoroughly enjoyed your photos and commentary. 🙂
Great post. We, in Canada, love to see the photos of the royal family!
Thank you Frances for stopping by my blog. We in England love the opportunity to see our Royal family. They work very hard and are often out and about so you can see them.
Yes, we do don’t we Frances? I am in Southern Ontario about 45 minutes N.E. of Toronto.
Brilliant – love the Honk pic, he looks as if he’s in character x
He was an excellent froglet
I love it. Thanks for sharing such a fun time.
I am very lucky to be taken every year as it really is a very special day out.
