Cheese IS OK

I was delighted to read yesterday, in the very highly esteemed BMJ (British Medical Journal) an article about Saturated fat.  Saturated fat is found in dairy products and red meat among others.  It is not the evil food product that causes us to have heart attacks.  The article even goes so far as to mention some health benefits of such foods.  The real baddies are sugar, low fat foods and statins.  Now the article does not say go and eat as much cheese as you like but it was good to read something in such a quality publication that backs up similar articles I have read in other sources.  You can read the article here.

I did have some sugar today which was annoying but I was very hungry and in a rush so I had an egg and bacon mayonnaise sandwich.  There was sugar in the mayonnaise, I assume.  However, having it with the egg and bacon did not cause a blood sugar spike and this sandwich kept me going for 5 hours.egg and bacon mayo It was a very mild and even sunny day in London today.  Near the office is a huge development of expensive apartments and amongst them are several of these statues.  I rather like them.  They are very large.Another head statue I popped in here for a browse.  This shop is a pop up and only here for 6 weeks.  It sells a weird and wonderful assortment of outdoor lighting and furniture.Barbed Pop Up Shop Lovely candles.Candles My colleagues and I are quite fascinated by these flats.  They cost between 1 and 6 million pounds which seems extraordinary.  The lower floors are not very private either – you can see straight in!Neo Bankside Another large head.  This is my favourite one as I love the marbling and you can see how the smooth head has been carved from the solid rock.Head statue I had an Espresso and a Croque Monsieur from Paul’s which was really good.Paul's Croque Monsieur I was conscious that I had eaten no plant food all day.  It is difficult to buy ready made salad without sugary dressings so I really must make more effort to take my own in.  I didn’t fancy salad when I got home.  I felt very tired (I have had a tough 2 days at work with very long hours) and wanted something comforting.veggies in steamer I steamed some cauliflower, broccoli and carrots.steamed veg Then made a cheese sauce to cover them which I then topped with grated cheese and lots of black pepper.  Delicious.veggie cheese

So I have probably had too much cheese today as the BMJ definitely did NOT say to go ahead and shovel tons of saturated fats down your throat.  But at least I didn’t go for the sugary processed carbs which I could easily have done a few weeks ago 🙂

About Lose Weight and Gain Health

Hi! My name is Zoe and I live in Hastings, East Sussex, with my son Harvey and dog, Milton. I have been fighting the fat for years but this time I am serious. I want to lose weight and gain health. This blog is about how I am changing my lifestyle so I can lose weight but not by just "being on a diet" but by making small changes to our lives so that as I lose weight, I gain health. I want my family to be healthy too and never have to struggle with their weight like I have. In common with many large people, I have gained and lost weight many times over the years. This time, I want to lose it and maintain a healthy low weight. I am interested in eating food that is nutrient dense and delicious and that appeals to children and adults. I do not eat animal products so follow a vegan diet. I try to use locally produced food supplemented with what I can grow myself. I support and try to use local farmers markets and farm shops. Another objective is to add more exercise to our days. It sounds so simple when I write it down :-)
