Luscious Lettuce

I was organised today and took breakfast in to work this morning.  A small bag of local cherries which are delicious.

Ooh yummy, some more strawberries are ready for eating.strawberries and flowers These are my favourite types of lettuce and they are perfectly ready just now so I picked one for eating.  You can cut the outer leaves off and they keep growing but I like to pick the whole lettuce as I enjoy the contrasts between the outer leaves and the really crispy little inner leaves.Lettuces in veg patch About 8 weeks ago I planted a row of radishes amongst the sweetcorn and now they are ready.radishes and sweetcorn They are multi coloured radishes.radishes in sweetcorn It is such a delight to come home and pick the main ingredients for supper from your garden.lettuce and radishes I added the leftover Greek salad and roasted vegetables from yesterdays BBQ.  Apart from the cucumber which had gone watery and rubbery (and which I left on the side), it was really good.  The lettuce was the star of this little show.salad 15-7-13

I am up and out very early tomorrow as I have to be in Birmingham but I want to eat healthily and lose weight.

I discovered a local farm that grows blackcurrants which I love.  I remember reading somewhere they are one of the best sources of vitamin C.  They are not too sweet either which is good because at this time of year it is too easy to eat too many sweet fruits, which I have been doing.  I added about a cup to the blender to make in to a smoothie.Blackcurrants I added half a punnett of strawberries, a banana, some coconut water and some vegan protein powder.strawberries 15-7-13 That is now in the freezer, ready for my 4:30 am start !Blackberry and strawberry smoothie

I am really pleased with my eating today.  I didn’t get to bed until nearly 2am as I had some paperwork to do.  That is 3 – 4 hours later than usual.  Being tired is usually a trigger for eating sugary carbs for me but I didn’t today so I am happy and pleased with myself.  I often tend to eat badly too when I have had a bad day of eating the day before so I had 2 reasons to be worried today but I defeated my Demons.  Phew.

About Lose Weight and Gain Health

Hi! My name is Zoe and I live in Hastings, East Sussex, with my son Harvey and dog, Milton. I have been fighting the fat for years but this time I am serious. I want to lose weight and gain health. This blog is about how I am changing my lifestyle so I can lose weight but not by just "being on a diet" but by making small changes to our lives so that as I lose weight, I gain health. I want my family to be healthy too and never have to struggle with their weight like I have. In common with many large people, I have gained and lost weight many times over the years. This time, I want to lose it and maintain a healthy low weight. I am interested in eating food that is nutrient dense and delicious and that appeals to children and adults. I do not eat animal products so follow a vegan diet. I try to use locally produced food supplemented with what I can grow myself. I support and try to use local farmers markets and farm shops. Another objective is to add more exercise to our days. It sounds so simple when I write it down :-)
