It was a very cold day in London today. I woke up feeling tired as I had slept badly. It always happens when I have a couple of drinks even though last night I didn’t go mad. I had 2 gin and tonics and a glass of wine with dinner. I went out with Cherry-Ann and Zoe R. from work and we had a lovely drink at Vinopolis’ Bar Bleu ( 2 for the price of one!!) and then supper in TAS, the Turkish restaurant.
I popped in to pod to have one of their superfood breakfasts.
I am becoming quite a fan of pod. I like the fact their food is cooked fresh when you order it but quickly. They are very efficient. My breakfast was scrambled eggs with tomatoes, chillies, spinach, sunflower seeds and Feta cheese served with 1 slice of lightly buttered granary toast. I know, thanks to their on-line nutrition information that this had 367 calories. I also had a small latte which is about 200 calories.
For lunch I walked up the road to Itsu. This is on the corner of my street and Moorgate and looks out over Finsbury Square. Yesterday was my first ever visit to Itsu as I met Olivia there for lunch.
Itsu was set up by Julian Metcalf who founded Pret. It’s USP is healthy and low fat food such as sushi and noodle pots. I think we are led to believe that living on Itsu food gives one a figure like the ladies on the packet. They are not sexist – there are bags with hunky men on. I was just unlucky 🙂
I bought the smoked chicken salad. It was totally delicious and I want it again.
There was a generous portion of smoked chicken served on a bed of leaves and fresh herbs with sesame seeds and a tasty dressing, edamame beans and raw green beans.
With seasoned rice and a fantastic dressing made with coriander, lime and tofu. It was exceptionally good and just under 500 calories.
For dinner we are having a tray of roasted veggies : aubergine, red and yellow peppers, leeks and carrots with sausages. Good old fashioned British bangers. I know they are not healthy or diet friendly but it is very cold and just what we all fancy. I didn’t add any oil to this as the sausages contain more then enough fat and every 10-15 minutes I stir everything so the veggies don’t stick or dry out.I would have been ok today in terms of calories, despite the sausages, except this afternoon I had a boredom blip and ate a lemon with poppy seed muffin plus 2 caramel biscuits with a cup of tea 😦
Itsu is absolutely my favourite fast food place. I always have their Detox pot and it fills me up and is only 184 calories. I wish there was one in Archway! The children love it too.
My children would love it too. I surprised I have not been in it before. I think it was the colour scheme and packaging which put me off. But now I have been in twice in one week, I will be returning.
WOW that food looks great and is making me very hungry!! Would like to try out both of those places over easter please 🙂 x.x.x
O look forward to seeing you up in London 🙂
Love Itsu, hate the large bunch of skinny girls on is plastic bag 😉
