Salad Days

What a day!  I had so much work to do today, I logged on just after 8am and worked almost non stop until 11 pm.  I was amazed I could do it and I put that down mainly to the detox.  Today I did indeed feel bright and alert.  Still not euphoric but that is probably because I spent all day working.  If I was able to relax and so fun things, maybe I would have felt euphoric.

Harvey wanted me to blog his breakfast.  I insist my children have fruit or vegetables with every meal.  Harvey struggles with breakfast on a school day because he is never hungry first thing.  So he had a soya yogurt with mashed strawberries and raspberries.  I love the fact that he decorated it with a raspberry on top 🙂

We girls had melon.

A Piel de Sapo melon, apparently.  It was fabulous.  At this time of year melons are wonderful.  Sweet, juicy and full of flavour.  Mmmmmm.

We forgot the pineapple mid morning.  It is amazing we weren’t hungry.  I am sure people get fat because they eat food low in nutrients.  Their brains tell them they are hungry because the brain knows it is missing vital nutrients so you keep eating and do not get the “I am full” signal because your brain is waiting for nutrients.  I think that is why the world is getting fatter.  The food is becoming less nutritious so we get fatter.  Simple really!

Anyway.  We were so excited about lunch.  A salad !!!!!  Amazing to think we could be so excited about a simple salad.  It was fabulous so I will share the recipe which came from Home Detox Box.

Raw Vegetable Salad (serves 1)

Leaves from different varieties of plants/lettuce
10 cherry tomatoes
1/4 cucumber diced
1/2 avocado
1/2 yellow and 1/2 green pepper, diced
1 finely chopped spring onion
Fresh alfalfa sprouts
Fresh herbs

Garlic and Ginger Dressing (serves 4)

1 tbsp minced garlic
1 tbsp finely grated ginger
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp honey
5 tbsp soy sauce
5 tbsp olive oil

Blend together until throughly mixed.  Pour over salad and try not to choke to death as you stuff yourself with the first real meal in 5 days !

In the afternoon we had cucumber and carrot crudités with guacamole which Lara kindly made for us.

For supper we had something cooked.  Woo hoo – hot food.  Just a roasted fennel but hey, hot is hot.

Another salad, with roasted fennel on top and the same yummy dressing we had at lunch time.  You see, it made 4 portions so that was perfect 🙂

A probiotic and glass of water and we were done for the day.

About Lose Weight and Gain Health

Hi! My name is Zoe and I live in Hastings, East Sussex, with my son Harvey and dog, Milton. I have been fighting the fat for years but this time I am serious. I want to lose weight and gain health. This blog is about how I am changing my lifestyle so I can lose weight but not by just "being on a diet" but by making small changes to our lives so that as I lose weight, I gain health. I want my family to be healthy too and never have to struggle with their weight like I have. In common with many large people, I have gained and lost weight many times over the years. This time, I want to lose it and maintain a healthy low weight. I am interested in eating food that is nutrient dense and delicious and that appeals to children and adults. I do not eat animal products so follow a vegan diet. I try to use locally produced food supplemented with what I can grow myself. I support and try to use local farmers markets and farm shops. Another objective is to add more exercise to our days. It sounds so simple when I write it down :-)

Zöe people get “used to” oversized portion size and think over-eating is the new normal. Doing a detox is always a reality check and the first 3 days of withdrawals as your body does adjust, but you really do get a wake-up call to pay attention to the wonderful taste of food instead of shoveling it in. Plus, your stomach has shrunk from not loading it up with food and you create a new normal for full. I am again, proud of you both for sticking it out.

  2. It is a relief the detox is over and I am determined to now eat healthily and lose weight again. I was not tempted to eat anything bad today and I am definitely eating smaller portions naturally so that was some good that has come out of it.
