The long and winding road

This will be a very short blog today and the last until Sunday I suspect.  On the eve of taking my beautiful daughter to begin her University education, I want to spend the day with her.  I want to be doing things with and for her, not for me.  How we spend our last day at home until the Christmas holidays and the first days in Durham is just for us.

As a family of four, we are all living our lives and following our own paths in life.  Separately and together.  Sometimes we walk the same path, other times our paths are parallel and at others, they are divergent.  But then they come together again, are shared or are crossed over.  Onwards, ever onwards and continuing.  From one minute to the next, as we walk the same road, we build up memories of shared experiences.  When we no longer share so much space, we can begin to share separate experiences, together.  Just from afar.

As a Mother, I feel very proud of a job well done.  Our daughter is ready to take the first steps towards leaving home.  While she alternates between anxiety and excitement, she is looking forwards to the future.   She will do well for herself and continue growing in to the amazing, independent young woman I know she will be.  She knows where we are when she needs us and we will always be here for her.  She also knows the time has come to stride out on her own.  And she is ready.

I think the road to Durham and back will be a long and emotional one.

About Lose Weight and Gain Health

Hi! My name is Zoe and I live in Hastings, East Sussex, with my son Harvey and dog, Milton. I have been fighting the fat for years but this time I am serious. I want to lose weight and gain health. This blog is about how I am changing my lifestyle so I can lose weight but not by just "being on a diet" but by making small changes to our lives so that as I lose weight, I gain health. I want my family to be healthy too and never have to struggle with their weight like I have. In common with many large people, I have gained and lost weight many times over the years. This time, I want to lose it and maintain a healthy low weight. I am interested in eating food that is nutrient dense and delicious and that appeals to children and adults. I do not eat animal products so follow a vegan diet. I try to use locally produced food supplemented with what I can grow myself. I support and try to use local farmers markets and farm shops. Another objective is to add more exercise to our days. It sounds so simple when I write it down :-)

    I am sure it will be. You’ve done a great job with your daughter and I am sure she will make an effort that her path winds it’s way back to yours very often. Your next couple of days will be like Thelma and Louise (except more squashed!) Enjoy …xx

    • Thank you Lucy. I am not sure about Thelma and Louise as we are taking the boys! But you are definitely correct about being squashed but then Lara did declare that “leg space is over-rated”. Methinks she will change her mind after a few hours 🙂
